Damp proofing

Clear the mould, then fix the moisture behind it

Condensation is the most common form of damp in Hampshire homes. Warm, moist air from cooking, washing and drying meets a cold surface, a window, an outside wall, a cold corner, and turns back into water. Over time that shows as black spot mould, misted windows, peeling wallpaper and a stale smell.

Because it is caused by moisture in the air rather than water coming through the wall, the fix is different to rising or penetrating damp. We treat the mould that is already there, then deal with the cause by improving how the property breathes, which usually means better ventilation and sometimes changes to how rooms are heated and used. We explain the practical steps clearly so the mould does not simply grow back.

  • Extractor fans or ventilation systems where needed

Common questions

Condensation & Mould Control questions

Is black mould dangerous?

Persistent mould is worth dealing with, especially in bedrooms and for anyone with breathing problems. Treating it and fixing the ventilation removes the cause rather than just the marks.

Will opening windows fix it?

Airing rooms helps, but on its own it rarely solves it in winter. Controlled ventilation removes the damp air without letting all the heat out, which is why we recommend the right system for your home.

Can you treat the mould only?

We can, but if the cause is left the mould returns. We always explain the underlying fix so you are not paying to treat the same wall twice.

Why does condensation get worse in winter?

Warm, moist air meets cold surfaces, so it shows most when the heating is on and the windows stay shut. Better ventilation and a few habit changes usually clear it.

Do you install extractor fans?

Yes. We fit humidity-sensing extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms, or a whole-home ventilation unit, depending on what the property needs.
